Whether summer’s just round the corner or has already passed us by, this June brings with it a load of local happenings for all kinds of weather. From the Festival of Libraries (4-8 June), to Horizons Festival (12-15 June), there are plenty of big events on this month, as well as more intimate poetry readings, film screenings and music events organised by local groups.

04 JUN The Embassy of Utopia, Manchester Central Library: Artist and writer David Hartley will host over 60 performances during this event, featuring communities’ reflections on the theme of eco-futures and ecology.
04 JUN Fire & Dust: A Woody Guthrie Story, Carole Nash Hall at The Stoller Hall, Manchester: Commissioned and produced by Pete Townshend, Fire & Dust: A Woody Guthrie Story is a captivating journey into the life of one of America’s greatest folk icons, created by celebrated singer-songwriter Reg Meuross.
07 JUN Keep Telling of Gaza poetry reading, Levenshulme Old Library, Manchester: A poetry reading which tells of Gaza and the role of language as a witnessing project. It excavates words from the rubble of grief and collective trauma in with-ness and witness with Gaza.
08 JUN Summer Music Sunday, RHS Garden Bridgewater, Salford: Summer Music Sundays take place from 2-4pm, with free admission for RHS members and normal garden admission for non-members. Relax in comfy deckchairs and enjoy the soothing environment of the Wellbeing Garden – dancing is encouraged if the mood strikes!
14 JUN Frivolous Fields II – Acoustic Boogaloo, Platt Fields Market Garden, Manchester: An all-day unplugged family friendly festival celebrating the folk culture of Platt Fields Market Garden.
18 JUN Surround Sounds, Aviva Studios, Manchester: Late-night immersive experience celebrating 20 years of Salford’s annual festival Sounds From the Other City.
18 JUN NHS BORDERLANDS Film Screening, The Onion, Manchester: Documentary exploring the impact of the government’s hostile policies towards migrants and resulting barriers to healthcare, followed by food and an informal discussion about healthcare access and what solidarity from health workers looks like.
20 JUN Refugee Day Acoustic Amnesty gig, Sacred Trinity Church, Salford: Acts including singer-songwriters and poets – Little Sparrow, Tracey Browne, David Viney, Rose Condo, Louise Fazakerley, Kieren King.
26 JUN Sudan, Remember Us film screening, Contact Theatre, Manchester: Following Shajane, Maha, Muzamil, and Khattab: four young Sudanese activists in their twenties, these politically active and artistically creative youth are but a few of a generation fighting for freedom with their words, poems, and chants. Buoyed by courage, sheer will and collective hope, these Sudanese youth risked everything to overthrow the country’s military regime through impassioned revolution.

12–15 JUN Horizons Festival 2025, HOME, Manchester: Celebrating creativity, community, and connection, this year’s theme More in Common reflects a shared desire to build understanding and prevent divisions in society caused by fear and misinformation, championing the power of art to unite people across cultures.
14 JUN Hulme Is Where The Art Is, Hulme Park, Manchester: A planet-loving party packed with eco-friendly arts & crafts, live music, dance workshops, storytelling and circus skills that’ll have the whole family smiling.
14 JUN Stockport Zine and Print Fair, Stockroom, Stockport: Stockport Zine and Print Fair will be a celebration of all things self-publishing, featuring free workshops, author readings and traders selling a range of art prints and zines throughout the day. Visitors will be able to have a go at creating their own zine, badge making, creative workshops, and even contributing towards a Zine-In-A-Day activity with Roots Riso Stockport.
14 JUN Say No to the Supreme Court demonstration, Manchester Central Convention Centre: Demonstration led by Manchester Trans Liberation Assembly against recent UK Supreme Court ruling on the definition of ‘sex’ in the Equality Act 2010.

15 JUN Healing Manchester, The Monastery, Manchester: A wide range of open-hearted workshops, gatherings, conversations and meditations to enjoy, many of which are completely free, although donations are always very much appreciated.
21 JUN AR Fest, Ayres Road, Trafford: A one-day festival celebration of Ayres Road, Old Trafford and the local community.
26 JUN Meeting the Menopause Head On, Friends’ Meeting Housing, Manchester: Join for an empowering evening led by Dr Alice Thomas, a menopause doctor with a refreshingly real approach. This session is for women who want to understand what the menopause really is, what it isn’t, and how to navigate it with confidence.

03 JUN Zine-making workshop inspired by South African DRUM magazine, Moss Side Millennium Powerhouse, Manchester: 2-hour creative zine-making workshop in which you can create your own zines inspired by the South African DRUM magazine of the 1950s/60s. DRUM was a publication that was vital for Black representation and anti-racist action under apartheid.
04 JUN Reform Radio Interactive DJ Workshop, Abraham Moss Library, Manchester: Introduction to our 2 week DJ Programme – will also discuss wider 19-30 training and learning opportunities in partnership with Manchester Adult Education Service.

05 JUN Pankhurst Centre Museum Learning Workshop, North City Library, Manchester: This is a family-friendly arts & language activity, in which participants can draw or write slogans about things they would like to change or improve in the world. It is designed to help learners feel like their voice can be heard, and to help with exploring conversational and persuasive language techniques, but it also introduces learners to a significant part of Mancunian history.

12 JUN Uncovering injustice, exposing truths: Journalism the Manchester way?, John Rylands Library, Manchester: The John Rylands Library is hosting a symposium on investigative journalism with a specific focus on Manchester’s role in creating news and exposing truths. The afternoon will include a series of panel discussions bringing together historians, journalists and archivists and anyone else interested in investigative journalism, connecting established practitioners with emerging talent.
