Manchester’s local radio station ALL FM 96.9 are celebrating the launch of their new broadcast and training studio by throwing a party to which you are all invited. Live acts at the show include: Aziz Ibrahim, Marian Waldorn, George Borowski, Soul Sounds Choir and more, at just £5 a ticket.
The event, which will also be broadcast live over the radio, is on 22 June, 7:30pm, at the beautiful Levenshulme Old Library. The library was opened in 1904 as a Carnegie Free Library. After falling in to disuse, the library was transformed in 2018 into a new arts and culture centre. This was achieved by a long campaign undertaken by the Levenshulme community, who eventually convinced the council to asset transfer the building to them so it could be put to good use.
The library and its ethos is a good fit for ALL FM, who describe themselves as a “radio station for the community, by the community” and “100% Manchester”. Moving in just after the old library reopened, the ALL FM team have had to make do with a makeshift radio broadcast studio. Their new purpose built studio will be put to good use, as stated on their website:
“Delivering varied, distinctive community radio for all listeners, content includes debates, discussions, live bands/artists, comedy, radio plays, daily community news and programming in a variety of languages! ALL FM 96.9 has got all YOU need.”
The studios will also be used in the comprehensive radio production training ALL FM offer to communities across Manchester. Money raised on the opening night will go towards producing a second studio to help accommodate their busy and growing broadcasting and training schedules.
A star performer on the night is singer-songwriter George Borowski, who over his long and illustrious career has been associated with a growing number of well-known artists, including Pixies, Meatloaf, Sad Café, The Water Boys, Teenage Fanclub and Radiohead. Borowski says he delivers: “Music with a message for all, delivered with a passion”.
The eclectic mix of acts already booked for the night will be supplemented with more yet to confirm. There is also a licensed bar and raffle available on the night with all proceeds going to ALL FM.
